Observance and Acknowledgement of Juneteenth

Students, Faculty, and Staff, Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 19th, 新澳门六合彩开奖结果 will close our offices in observance of Juneteenth, a day set aside to commemorate June 19, 1865. On this day in history, the enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned that they were free. Juneteenth celebrates both the end of slavery as a legal non-punitive practice in the United States and mourns the denial of enslaved people in Galveston their freedom for two-and-a-half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. In 2021, after many years of social justice organizing, president Joseph Biden made Juneteenth the first federal holiday to be signed into legislation since Martin Luther King Day. While we hope you enjoy the day off, we encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the ways that the legacy of slavery continues to shape the world in which we live. If you抮e able, consider attending a Juneteenth celebration near you. For those interested in attending a celebration near the Romeoville campus, the爴 JuneTeenth: A Cel-Liberation of Freedom event will take place at the A.F. Hill Park in Fairmont from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.牋 As a LaSallian institution with a mission to uphold the full human dignity of every person, 新澳门六合彩开奖结果 aims to embody the commitment symbolized by the history that Juneteenth invokes: to end injustice in all its forms. We reaffirm that 新澳门六合彩开奖结果 is united and steadfast in identifying our own shortcomings and areas for improvement. Thank you for your efforts toward making this a better, more just world.
